For My Grandmother, Who Not Too Long Ago

For my grandmother, who not too long ago
Gave us kisses that made us smile
Because her grandma touch went on for miles
Who disciplined us, taught us right from wrong
And if we messed up mama or daddy was on the phone
Who was a black woman, strong from the bone
Who played fairytale with us and acted as a queen on her throne
Who with my mother, owned Things Galore
Who told her grandchildren they could soar
Soar high, high up to the sky
She said that is your only limit and never to lie
For my grandmother, who not too long ago
Got sick to the bone
Unable to sit on her throne
Who now slept in a hospital bed
I’d come in and kiss her on her head
Who was the one I cried for everyday
Hoping and wishing she would never go away
Who sat in that bed with a smile on her face
She told us “Don’t worry everything is gonna be okay”
Who was the one I wanted to believe everyday
But I always felt that she might not be there the next day
For my grandmother, who on January 28, 2002
Lost her battle
Who told me she would always be here
And to always keep the necklace she gave me near
Who was the one I never thought would betray
Crazy thing is she left me the next day
Who I cried and cried hoping she would come back
But In reality I didn’t get jack
For my grandmother
Who I love, miss dearly
And many times wish I could have said goodbye

i love it! very heartfelt - D-Mac
